As promised, I’m back to write about my pre-work out fuel: The Original GREEN SuperFood Whole Energy Bar. It was the last of my samples of Amazing Grass Energy Bars to try (still have the Peanut Butter Protein Bar for another day), so I was eagar to do a comparison. In all honesty, I’m ashamed I did not try this bar first. I had the mentality that it would not be very flavorful since one of the main ingredients is the company’s Green Amazing Grass which is composed of: Organic Wheat Grass, Organic Barley Grass, Organic Alfalfa, Organic Spirulina, Organic Spinach, Organic Chlorella, Organic Broccoli, Organic Acai, Organic Maca, Organic Carrot, Organic Beet, Raspberry, Organic Rose Hips, Pineapple, Green Tea, Organic Flax Lignans, L. Adidophilus, Alpha and Beta Amylase, Protease, Lipase, Lactase, Cellulase, Organic Peppermint. I went for the chocolate coated bar first to ease my way into it but found that I actually preferred the bar in it’s pure form. It was dense and had whole pieces of nuts and seeds running through the bar. I could taste the flavor of the Amazing Grass (the flavor reminds me of green tea and bananas for some reason) but the bar was also a bit sweet from the dates and agave nectar.
This bar wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be; it exceeded my expectations and help me exceed my expectations!! I enjoyed this bar as my “pre-workout” fuel. It settled well in my stomach and gave me an extra boost of energy to power my work out. I had originally planned on doing a 3 mile run, but found that I wasn’t tired and continued for 10 more minutes at a reduced 6.3 pace!! I ended up running/jogging a total of 4.3 miles and it felt AWESOME! I think for those who are timid to try these bars, the Berry SuperFood bar would be the way to go since it is slightly sweeter and the berry flavor outshines the “green” flavor, but my favorite is the original.
Have you tried Amazing Grass products? If not what are your favorite “raw whole food” snacks?
